What Age Is Autism Usually Diagnosed?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is often diagnosed in early childhood, with signs typically appearing between 18 months and 3 years old. Some children may show developmental differences even earlier, such as difficulty with communication, limited eye contact, or repetitive behaviors.

While the average age of diagnosis is around 4 years old, earlier identification is becoming more common due to increased awareness and improved screening methods. Early diagnosis allows parents to begin interventions, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, at a time when the child’s brain is most adaptable and responsive to learning.

However, autism can also be diagnosed later, especially in children with milder symptoms that might not be immediately apparent. This is why parents must be aware of early signs and seek evaluation if they notice delays or concerns about their child’s development.

The earlier autism is diagnosed, the earlier a child can receive the support they need to succeed.
